What a month it’s been! I’ve just finished giving the website a complete overhaul, and am starting to get it put together and filled out the way I’d always intended.
With the new site updates and new newsletter, I’m only just getting the ball rolling with promotion of the first book in the Olive Tree Academy series, but I’m hard at work on several other projects, both OTA and other things in the larger Barrow City World. I’ll be talking a lot about my works in progress on this blog as we go forward.
Speaking of… right now, all the new blog posts and pages I’ve added during the overhaul have been what I’d consider “marketing heavy.” Everything is “buy my book!” “read my book!” “Hey! I have a book!” And, let’s face it, I’m an author–that isn’t going to go away any time soon. But I do plan to do lots of other things with this site and blog, too. I needed to get all my Apprentice promo ducks in a row, but now that they’re swimming along, I can relax and talk about other things.
What other things? I suppose we’ll see.
I definitely plan to build out this site with lots of worldbuilding information. My books and stories take place in a fictional city (or two, if you count Greenvale,) and a fictional university, the latter of which exists inside a pocket dimension. I plan to feature people and places from Barrow City, Greenvale, and OTA, and also will be sharing things from the OTA Library. I even intend to share extended versions of things like lectures and OTA textbook excerpts–things that would slow down the narrative and bore most readers, but that will be lovely, nerdy extras for folks like me!
I’ll also probably be talking about the craft of writing from time to time. I have no intention of turning this into a “how to write” blog, but I’m sure I’ll be going down that path once in a while.
And then, I figure I’ll also just talk about whatever comes to mind sometimes. My hopes for the success of BC World comes from my own devotion to several fandoms–things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shadowhunters, and The Magicians. I’ll probably ramble on about all of these fictional worlds and more–and I know from being a fan the sort of thing fans want to see, and intend to give that to my readers!
If you haven’t already, how about subscribing to my newsletter, The Barrow City Gazette? It’s monthly–I won’t junk up your inbox every other day, I promise! I might, on rare occasions, send a special announcement mid-month, but I won’t tell you about every post and update, just the important stuff. Newsletter subscribers get a nice digest of the major blog posts from the past month, as well as subscriber-only content like extended previews, other original writings, freebies, and early notice of sales and pre-orders.
I also have comments on on most posts–I’d love to hear what you have to say!
Looking forward to talking and reading with you all!!
